Growing in 2017

In 2016, the church leadership devoted 6 months to seeking, asking and listening to how the Lord desires for us to join Him on His mission in 2017. We hear a lot about church "growth" these days. Growth is often thought of in terms of "numbers," whether you are in ministry, business, or considering how one desires to cause things to multiply. Therefore, in order to create greater awareness and understanding of what we (pastor, elders, and church council) define as "growth" at this season of our ministry at Mount Olive, you will find a very specific definition here.

In 2017, the Mount Olive leadership team invites you to join us as we seek to grow in the depth of the knowledge of our Savior and His plan for us as individuals and collectively as a community of believers. Below are some opportunities we are creating in the hopes that you will take advantage of them and seek to grow with us  this year.

"You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them? "From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you." Isaiah 48:6

Prayer

We are the branches, Jesus is the vine; our source of nourishment, wisdom and strength; apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5-8). Like the vine, if we are going to grow in dry, dismal conditions, we have to remain connected to the Source of Life and we do that through seeking God's Word and in prayer (not forgetting to listen).

Let us not forget that Jesus meets us where we are...whether you are a seasoned prayer warrior, a fair weather praying friend, new to prayer all together, or just desire to hear from the God who loves you and created you...then, please join us during one of the prayer events this year:

Prayer Vigil: Saturday, January 14 from 8 am - 4 pm in the Sanctuary

The prayer vigil consists of 5 prayer stations. Each station focuses on a short devotion and allows time for you to journal, pray, and read. Whether you have a lot of experience in prayer or very little, we believe you will be blessed by this experience and gain so much encouragement as you meet in the Lord's presence.

Have more questions before signing up? Contact you elder or ask a council member.

To SIGN UP either call or email the church office at 916-985-2984 or office.molc@gmail.com.

Prayer Walking our Community Every Month

Prayer walking is just what it sounds like. We will be walking the sidewalks of Mount Olive's neighboring community praying for the people, places and things that we see. We will be asking God how He desires to use us to reach out to our neighbors. For people with physical limitations, no worries! We have something special prepared for you to pray  on the church campus. Time duration may be approximately 20-30 minutes in length.

Prayer walks will be led each month by a different member of the church leadership team. To find out the day and time for each month, you can either check the church CALENDAR or contact the leadership person(s) (click on the name to send them an email) according to the month below:

If you would like more information contact either Stan Gisler or Gary Kilbourne.

Serving Our Community

Sharing Christ, Serving the Community is Mount Olive's mission statement and remains our focus in 2017. During and after the leadership's time of seeking God last year, the common thread they each heard from the Lord is that God has placed people in our path whom we can walk alongside during the joyous and difficulties of life. The consensus was that Mount Olive has people with resources (gifts & talents) that can assist the needs of people who seek assistance at Twin Lakes Food Bank. This is where time dedicated to prayer will help each of us hear how God is calling us to serve. The Mount Olive leadership team plans to continue building on the foundation of ideas for practical ways to help others in 2017.

After time in prayer, if you feel that God is tugging at your heart to assist someone with your gifts, talents, time and resources then please talk with Gary Kilbourne or Stan Gisler. We would love to encourage you and support you in your pursuit of following Jesus and serving the community!
